Wow, what a dynamite November Conference!

Every speaker was enthusiastic and informative. The weather was perfect (75) and armadas of sailboats glided by behind the speakers as they imparted all their accumulated wisdom to the attentive guests.

Everyone is invited to participate in our "Challenge" writing contests for great prizes, such as a helicopter ride over the island and kayak tours through our tidal rivers to observe abundant wildlife.

Former UGA news reporter speaks up!

Molly Read Woo is our surprise guest speaker this November. Her talk: FROM NEWS WRITING TO NOVEL WRITING -How a hard news reporter learned to disregard the facts, then find them again, promises to hold her audience captive.  Woo draws from her own thrilling experiences while writing for "The Red and Black", University of Georgia's newspaper. Winner of six Georgia Press Association awards, Woo's novel, "The Red and Black Breed" is expected this fall and will be available at the conference.

The Scribblers' Ball

The historic Metts Mansion in beautiful Savannah, Georgia will be hosting a fund-raiser for Scribblers' Retreat Writers' Conference, (a non-profit organization dedicated to literacy and the literary arts next year.  This black tie (optional) event promises to be an "old world" extravaganza designed to enjoy the best of everything in an atmosphere of lushness and gentility within view of the famous fountain in Forsyth Park.

Running In Stilettos: Living a Balanced Life in Dangerous Shoes, just picked up a Silver Award in the "humor" category of the national 2009 Independent Publisher Book Awards competition. Wagner's book took first place last Saturday in the Illinois Women's Press Association 2009 communications contest (non-fiction biography). Congratulations Mary!

William Rawlings, Jr. consistently fascinates...

Dan Roper, Editor of Georgia Backroads magazine says regarding William: "We need to keep an eye on him, because he's already an exceptional writer, but the scary thing is that he's getting better each time he writes something. He's one of those rare people who isn't satisfied unless they're learning something new and continually honing their craft. I would not be surprised if he "hits the big time".

Talented entertainment for Evening with the Author Reception

We are pleased to announce an entertainment line-up that is sure to be a big hit!
Michael Hulett will play his saxophone in his own passionate style on May 16th.
On August 15th, harpist Barbara Anderson will hypnotize us with heavenly music sure to make the angels weep.
And, in November we are honored to present three young "Mozart Society" scholarship recipients to play solo and in tandem for our listening pleasure.

Schools participate in scholarship programs!

The Glynn county school system has awarded a limited number of scholarships to their aspiring writers from the sixth grade level through the twelfth to attend the May conference. Please take a moment to notice these ambitious young people and congratulate them.
The Coastal College of Georgia has co-sponsored scholarships as well to four of their budding young journalists, all of whom will be attending the May conference.
Brewton-Parker College, a liberal arts college near Vidalia, Georgia is also participating in our scholarship program. Welcome aboard!
